NUVIEW is revolutionizing the Earth Observation industry by deploying the first commercial satellites designed to annually map the planet's entire land surface with LiDAR. NUVIEW's data will elevate global capabilities and transform what is possible for mankind to know about the Earth.

Job Description: Electrical Engineer

We are a rapidly growing startup seeking an Electrical Engineer with a minimum of 7 years of experience to spearhead the mechanical development of our innovative space LiDAR system at our new office in Berlin. In this role, you will primarily work on an ESA-sponsored project for a LiDAR system to map the Moon's surface with LiDAR. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, both in Berlin and in the United States, to design a novel LiDAR system, leveraging existing designs for NUVIEW's Earth-mapping LiDAR, focusing on the electrical, power, and avionic systems of the payload and its interfaces to the satellite bus. The role is expected to extend over the full lifecycle of the system, from preliminary design, to detailed design, to AIT, and implementation. You will work closely with the laser and software engineers, thermal analysts, systems engineers, and various other engineering disciplines. This position demands proficiency in electrical engineering tasks related to design, analysis, documentation, fabrication, assembly, and qualification of products in compliance with strict technical, schedule, and process requirements. Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience in space and LiDAR designs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the electrical, data, and power systems for a space LiDAR payload.
  • Work with electrical engineers in the USA to adapt existing electrical designs of LEO LiDAR payloads to lunar/deep space applications.
  • Understand FPGA-based implementations and common peripherals including, but not necessarily limited to, DDR, Flash, EEPROM, Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADC), Digital-to-Analog Converters (DAC), and transceivers.
  • Evaluate digital and analog systems processes and work standards, suggesting measures to ensure compliance, as well as identify and implement improvements.
  • Develop payload avionics and power regulation/distribution system.
  • Lead the build and test of the LiDAR flatsat.
  • Support the build and test of the LiDAR flight hardware.
  • Support LiDAR test campaigns.
  • Support LiDAR space qualification campaigns.
  • Identify design risks to the electrical/data/power systems of the LiDAR payload.
  • Support or lead the radiation analysis of the LiDAR in deep space environments.
  • Evaluate design tools and provide upgrade rationale based on return-on-investment analyses.
  • Analyze circuit tolerances using hand calculations and Spice tools
  • Requirements development, refinement, and compliance.
  • Generate test plans and test reports related to product performance (Brassboard, Design Verification, Qualification, etc.)
  • Lead or assist in failure investigations using structured tools (8D, Fishbone, Cause & Effect, etc.).
  • Provide inputs to relevant design documentation, including ICDs, design descriptions, testing and operations procedures, etc.
  • Generate material for all design reviews (PDR, CDR, MRR, FRR, etc.).
  • Provide inputs (material and labor estimates) for Requests for Proposals (RFPs).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and minimum 7 years of prior relevant experience or a Graduate Degree (MS/PhD) and a minimum of 5 years of prior related experience
  • Experience in electrical design for space applications and space qualification campaigns.
  • Strong preference for candidate with experience in data and power systems.
  • Preference for candidate with experience in radiation analysis.
  • Experience generating system-level requirements and translating those requirements into design specifications.
  • Experience with efficient low-voltage power electronics, high-reliability connectors, high-speed signals, and high-current power delivery.
  • Experience with command and data handling (C&DH) architectures and common spacecraft electrical interfaces.
  • Experience with grounding architectures and EMC/EMI assessments.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Desired to have experience with sensors.
  • Desired to have experience with board design.
  • Desired to have experience with lasers.
  • Design and develop digital and analog circuit card assemblies (CCA) and associated systems
